We've photographed many spring, summer, and autumn engagement sessions and weddings over the past 7+ years as Youngstown area wedding photographers, but a winter wedding is a rare gem in chilly northeast Ohio. My husband, Joel, and I braved the cold on a snowy January day almost 10 years ago for our own wedding (although I can't believe we're old enough to be approaching a double digit anniversary already), so it brings back special memories when we have the opportunity to photograph another couple's romantic January celebration. Amanda and Aaron's December engagement session at Lanterman's Mill was the perfect chance to warm up for my camera before their upcoming wedding day. Since we are in the holiday spirit, the fact that Lanterman's Mill was decorated for Christmas added an extra touch of magic to this iconic Youngstown landmark. Although our photography style isn't traditional, I always favor the classic, timeless decor of simple pine garland and red bows.
The two adorable causes of my current puppy fever!
Amanda warned me at the wedding consultation that her future husband isn't a fan of photos, but their engagement pictures say otherwise! I may or may not have attempted one of my favorite dad jokes to get Aaron to crack a smile, and I may or may not have been the only person at Mill Creek Park to laugh at my own joke, but I'm willing to go above and beyond to get smiles like this out of our grooms.
I took a break from my cheesy jokes and silly awkwardness to give the future bride and groom a few intimate moments to reflect on their relationship and what they are looking forward to about being husband and wife. This has to be my favorite part of engagement sessions. Every couple, whether married for a day or 50 years, should set aside time to look each other in the eyes, remember why they fell in love in the first place, and promise to intentionally choose love for the rest of their lives, even on the days when it's a choice more than a feeling.
I thought this bride-to-be couldn't get any more beautiful, but she just had to keep proving me wrong. The joy that radiates from her warm smile and sparkling blue eyes must take Aaron's breath away!
These fur babies even have bowties! Oh my heart! Our human son doesn't even own a bowtie, but I think we'll have to change that this Christmas!
Admiring beautiful engagement rings never grows old!
I love how these two adore each other! We are excited to return from our Christmas break refreshed and energized to kick off our 2018 wedding season with Amanda and Aaron's intimate winter wedding!
