We kicked off our 2017 summer wedding season on a bright and sunny June Saturday in North Lima, Ohio. When I photographed Jared and Elizabeth's snowy engagement session last winter at Elizabeth's family's farm, I couldn't wait to return to the beautiful property for their backyard summer wedding. We started at the house bright and early before the ceremony as the bride and groom prepared for their big day.
If I wasn't working, this would be the perfect spot to sit with a glass of iced tea and a good book!
I was blown away by all the details of this backyard wedding. Jared and Liz built this pergola together for the ceremony. The best way to test and strengthen a relationship is to work on a project together, and stay sane while doing it. I would say that the bride and groom passed with flying colors! It will be a beautiful reminder of their wedding day when they move it to their future home, and I'm sure it will last for years to come!
I try not to take too many ring photos, but can you really blame me?! I don't think I will ever get tired of looking at sparkly diamonds!
The mother of the bride, Holly, passed down a ring from her grandmother to Liz. I love moments like this!
Gems Floral in Boardman, Ohio did a beautiful job on the flowers! I love the combination of the orange roses and purple calla lilies in the bridesmaids' bouquets. The bride's bouquet was elegant with deep purple and white calla lilies to complement the purple and orange wedding theme.
Liz surprised Jared (and almost everyone else) with a second wedding dress halfway through the day! The gown she wore for her wedding had a classic and elegant touch to it for the ceremony, while this second dress was perfect for dancing at the reception!
The wedding ceremony took place next to a beautiful pond in the backyard with the perfect backdrop of green trees and deep blue sky.
We've attended and photographed many weddings, but this was our first ever wedding brunch following the ceremony! The Georgetown in Boardman catered a beautiful and delicious brunch right in the backyard. Guests enjoyed fresh fruit, pastries, bacon, eggs, potatoes, mimosas, and much more under the shade of a white tent. As a special surprise for the bride who loves sweets, The Georgetown also brought a cotton candy machine.
Although we found some shade at the park for most of our bridal party portraits, we took advantage of the beautiful scenery on the ranch for some family and bridal party photos after brunch.
If any guests missed the driveway to the house, they surely couldn't blame Liz and her family! I think they hold the record for the biggest and best wedding sign in the Youngstown area!
We took a short drive from the country roads of North Lima to get some bridal party pictures at Fellows Riverside Gardens in Mill Creek Park. In photography, lighting is one of the most important parts of making beautiful images. Since the midday sun is often harsh and causes squinty eyes and shadows (unless we get a cloudy day), we always advise our brides to consider using a shaded area for photos whenever possible. This is great for the photos, and the guys are usually thankful to hide from the heat while wearing heavy suit jackets! We found some big, beautiful trees in the gardens to provide just enough shade for the bridal party.
This is that special ring passed down from her grandmother. It's amazing how something so small can hold so much meaning and love.
Liz and Jared's reception was in the Davis Education & Visitor Center at Fellows Riverside Gardens in Mill Creek Park. Gems Floral had each table decorated with a beautiful variety of fresh flower centerpieces to match the purple and orange color scheme.
Holly & Dave are newlyweds themselves! After talking to Dave for a few minutes, it was obvious that he's in love with his beautiful wife. Holly and Dave were on the dance floor before guests arrived for dinner and it made my heart so happy!
First dance as husband and wife, and so much love...
Jared's parents also had me smiling on the dance floor. I love seeing examples of marriage like this!
This sweet couple won the anniversary dance, and also got to cut their own cake! The thoughtfulness that went into celebrating someone else's marriage at Jared and Liz's celebration was refreshing!
I love father daughter dances. I am the first to admit I cry almost every time!
And the mother son dance, too.
I'm not crying. You're crying! No matter how old we get in life, there is something special about a hug from your mom.
There are way too many memories to fit into one blog, but I look forward to sharing all the rest with the newlyweds and their families. Thanks to Liz and Jared for choosing us to document this special day in your lives. This is only the beginning of many happy memories together!
