Last year, we had the privilege of photographing a surprise marriage proposal at the University of Mount Union in Alliance, Ohio. Brad carefully made the arrangements to surprise his then girlfriend, Shaunna, as they walked their dog, Barley, across campus and made a stop on the "kissing bridge" to ask Shaunna to be his wife. As if that wasn't romantic enough, I also got to witness their love for each other last fall during a chilly autumn morning during their fall engagement session at Lanterman's Mill and the Silver Bridge at Mill Creek Park in Youngstown. I knew then that they were a great couple and I'd love to work with them again. Fortunately for me, Brad and Shaunna asked if we could schedule another engagement session during the summer. Engagement sessions are my all time favorite part of photography, so I was excited to plan something magical for them! Since our last session was in the morning, Shaunna had her heart set on a warm evening enjoying the sunset. What better place to watch the sunset than over the lake? We discovered a quiet, little corner of Lake Milton with the perfect view during golden hour.
Barley was there to witness the surprise proposal last year, so of course she is excited that her humans are getting married!
If you've ever wondered why I'm obsessed with "golden hour," this is your answer! In the hour just before sunset, the light is warm and flattering. It actually looks… golden!
Confession: I took this photo in a parking lot before we found our hidden gem by the lake. Sometimes the most beautiful moments in life happen on the way to your planned destination. I'm thankful that Brad and Shaunna trusted me to create something beautiful for them in a place where beauty may have been hard to see at first glance. Give me some beautiful sunlight and a camera, and I'm happy!
Don't worry! I loved that parking lot sunlight, but I pulled myself away so Brad and Shaunna could spend the rest of the evening enjoying the sunset on the lake.
Thank you, Brad and Shaunna, for allowing me to document your life together as you prepare to become husband and wife. We are excited and honored to be your wedding photographers next summer as you continue your journey together!
